The
Small is greater than the greats |
| Religion or no-Religion has been bone of contention among scholars and common man alike. But in reality neither of the two understood what religion stands for. So the pertinent question is what is the reason behind it. There is no dearth of great Characters in the history of mankind who, by means of their works, presented extraordinary example of service to the humanity and religious tolerance. From incarnation of Gods to prophets and great men like Buddha, Mohammad, Christ, Kabir, Nanak and so many other saints have not only adorned the earth by their gracious presence but also took serious pain to ameliorate the plight of poor and sufferings of the people. They virtually became gods in human form on the earth. They are worshipped even today. At the same time scriptures too impart the lessons of tolerance and service to mankind. |
| Every religion advocates the oneness of one underlying reality but spares no time or opportunity to refute the doctrines of other religions. The situation has come to such a deplorable low that blood shed of innocent people is considered as the religious and holy act. Human history has witnessed ferocious wars in the name of religion. Does it mean that religion failed utterly. I would say no, religion neither failed nor faltered, only followers could not grasp the real spirit of religion. They worshipped God and Goodman on the earth for getting relief from their sufferings and sorrows. Teachings of scriptures were not put into action. The great lofty ideals of service to mankind remained an ideal or used as means to serve the interest of those people who advocated it in orchestrated manner. Great men came and passed away and along with them vanished their greatness and servitude, leaving behind amazing stories. No doubt they served the humanity but failed to produce a movement of service to the mankind. Religion became dogma stories and rituals only |
| But what I saw on 24th
August 2008 in a small village of Musundi in Unnao district was amazing.
The village is inhabited by muslims and backward classes who are neither
affluent or educated with few exceptions. The village is proud of having
Mazar of great sufi saint Al-Haz-Sufi-Sayad Mohammad-Zakariya-Gulam-Sabir-Hasani.
People from all walks of life came there to pay their respect to great
saint. No doubt sufi-saints are revered by every one Hindu or Muslim,
Christian or Sikh. Virtually religious barriers are broken every where
whether it is Dewa Sharif or Azmer-Shareef so there was nothing amazing
and worth mentioning from this point of view. I was there in company of
Swami Hardas Ji of Swami Hardas Charitable Trust Pune who was invited as
Chief Guest to grace the occasion of annual Urs. Again I would say that
this was not peculiar because this has become a fashion now a days to
invite people of other faith or political leader in such ceremonies..
But here the selfless warm welcome was quite articulate by its serane
presence. Everything was informal but heart-touching Swami Ji inaugurated
the centre for service to the ailing people by using Sidha Science method
or Hardas life system. I was astonished to know that centre would be rum
by a person of muslim community Mr. Kalimuddin. I was surprised because
Swami Hardas Life System uses many things, such as photograph of Swami Ji,
or practice of asking for power from it which are not customary in the
community. Contrary to this entire atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm,
gratitude and happiness. Kalimuddin told us that when the news of Swami
Ji's programme came to village every person responded quite
enthusiastically and warmly. When a hard-core maulana tried to forbid the
announcement in the name of Islam Kalimuddin retorted what is wrong in it,
when Swami Ji is doing what our great elders Buzurga (a term commonly used
for great saints) have preached, why should we oppose it, if you donot
like it please go away from here. The use of the term
"hard-core" for a maulana by a muslim was making all the
difference. |
| At the gate of Dargah another surprise was waiting for us I saw a banner atop the gate on which Om Namo Sidhaya was written. I could not believe my eyes. The strongest of the strong opposition of recital of Vande Matram flashed immediately into my mind. A small photo of Swami Hardas Ji was on the table in main building of Dargah. In his welcome speech a maulana said "we have realized we are neither Hindu or Musalman we are simply insan i.e. human-beings our sorrows and sufferings are the same, our moments of pleasure are the same. This nation hope to progress only when every citizen of it would consider himself as a human being only. |
| At
the Mazar Swami Ji was surrounded by Maulanas. He was accorded warm
welcome there also. A special islamic cap and sarkari chadar have been
presented to him by the priest of Dargah. He has been given the
opportunity to offer first chadar to the Sufi Saint. A maulana asked swami
ji how are you feeling here among us he replied as ‘What you feel when
you visit your dear brother.’ |
